Around a month before Christmas of 2015 (specifically November 26th), Andrew (aka Booncipe, online friend I met through working on Clash who agreed to help with the game's art) suggested we make a special Christmas version of Alpha 0.7 to make the wait for Alpha 0.8 more bearable.
The first thing I did was create Santa's Workshop, a really dinky-looking flat stage with a tree and a square house in the background. Then, Andrew made an admittedly pretty good Travis sprite edit to give him a new hat, then did the same for Beck. We settled on just recoloring Mario, as giving him a hat would be too much work. (We also turned his fireballs into iceballs!)
I was going to replace Dream Land with Shiver Star from Kirby 64, which would've been really awesome, but that never happened. I think it was because I was hounding Andrew to recreate part of it in pixel art for the background of a stage, but he wasn't up for it. Thinking back, I totally could've just used a screenshot of the game, since I was definitely not beyond doing that.
In the end, we also managed to get a sprite for Santa in the game. He appears in the Santa's Workshop stage and in the game's trophy viewer (which was an Alpha 0.8 feature we implemented as a teeny preview). We were going to feature his reindeer-drawn sleigh in the background of Final Destination, Andrew had drawn the art for it, but the file was lost before we could add it into the game.
I remember struggling to stay up late enough to release the game at midnight, right as Christmas rolled around. It was hectic, but we managed to release Clash Christmas right on time.
... yea thats it
